Chapter 28
Once everyone had finished eating and Hadeon dismissed us, I hastily left the room. I caught a glimpse of the look Sevryn was sending me, worry etched across his face. At that moment I hadnât cared, I needed space from him and everyone else.
I made my way back to the place in the gardens that I had visited earlier, I was confident I could find my way back to my room even with it being nighttime. I heaved a shaky breath as the willow came into view. The full moonâs light illuminated the area, giving the space an ethereal glow.
Taking my seat on the stone bench again, I tried to relax now that I was alone. The heartache I felt was nearly overwhelming, I desperately wanted to believe in coincidences. But Hadeonâs comment at the end had rid me of the notion. There was no way he didnât have someone watching me. Sevrynâs strange outburst that day at lunch came to mind. Had he known I would find out? Was his caring all a guise to get closer to me?
I shuddered at the thought. If it was all a lie then it wouldnât stem from just Sevryn, it would include Marik and possibly Emrys as well. I felt my eyes burn with the tears I refused to let fall. Emrys had trusted both of my guardians and I had loved him dearly.
I wasnât sure how I would breach this topic with Sevryn but I knew I had to, and before we returned to Seneveer.
Lost in my thoughts, I didnât notice as someone else entered the area.

I didnât turn to see the newcomer; I knew who that voice belonged to.
âAnd you thought seeking me out in the gardens was the appropriate time to do so?â
Renzan strode to the front of the bench, I didnât notice at dinner but now with him near I could see how large the male was. He was impressively tall, with broad shoulders and a thick chest. The wyvern was handsome, I would give him that. The chiseled, wider-set jawline made him appear more masculine than what his face would have one believe.
âI thought my apology would be well received, as I am being gracious enough to give it. I assumed you would be different from your mother but I had thought you would at the very least been taught manners. I shouldnât be surprised as you were raised by those mongrels.â
Was he always this pretentious, or was I just a special case?
âThen would you be able to find it in your benevolent nature to kindly leave? I was enjoying my time. Alone.â
He scrunched his nose as if he was insulted at the idea that I found his presence annoying. Good, because I did find him to be a nuisance.
âYou need to work on your manners, High Lady. You should learn to be thankful when your betters acknowledge your existence.â Renzan snickered.
I smirked. âSo says the one that
