Chapter 28

Once everyone had finished eating and Hadeon dismissed us, I hastily left the room. I caught a glimpse of the look Sevryn was sending me, worry etched across his face. At that moment I hadn’t cared, I needed space from him and everyone else.

I made my way back to the place in the gardens that I had visited earlier, I was confident I could find my way back to my room even with it being nighttime. I heaved a shaky breath as the willow came into view. The full moon’s light illuminated the area, giving the space an ethereal glow.

Taking my seat on the stone bench again, I tried to relax now that I was alone. The heartache I felt was nearly overwhelming, I desperately wanted to believe in coincidences. But Hadeon’s comment at the end had rid me of the notion. There was no way he didn’t have someone watching me. Sevryn’s strange outburst that day at lunch came to mind. Had he known I would find out? Was his caring all a guise to get closer to me?

Renzan strode to the front of the bench, I didn’t notice at dinner but now with him near I could see how large the male was. He was impressively tall, with broad shoulders and a thick chest. The wyvern was handsome, I would give him that. The chiseled, wider-set jawline made him appear more masculine than what his face would have one believe.

“I thought my apology would be well received, as I am being gracious enough to give it. I assumed you would be different from your mother but I had thought you would at the very least been taught manners. I shouldn’t be surprised as you were raised by those mongrels.”

Was he always this pretentious, or was I just a special case?

“Then would you be able to find it in your benevolent nature to kindly leave? I was enjoying my time. Alone.”

He scrunched his nose as if he was insulted at the idea that I found his presence annoying. Good, because I did find him to be a nuisance.

“You need to work on your manners, High Lady. You should learn to be thankful when your betters acknowledge your existence.” Renzan snickered.

I smirked. “So says the one that
